Project Overview
This project involved building a concrete sleeper retaining wall along an embankment on a rural property. The raised ground behind it holds existing animal enclosures, and the land below it was being opened up into a level, usable strip along the fence line.
Our goal was to hold the bank securely in place, stop soil from eroding into the lower area, and create a clean, durable wall that will last for years with little maintenance.
The Challenge
The existing bank was unsupported, with exposed soil and roots that would keep slumping and washing down over time. Any work had to protect the enclosures at the top of the bank, so the cut and wall needed to be accurate.
Access was tight as well, with fencing on one side and the bank on the other, leaving a narrow corridor for machinery to work in.
The Solution
We started with a clean site cut along the base of the bank to create a straight, level line for the wall. Using our excavator, we dug the post holes and set galvanised steel posts in concrete footings, carefully spaced and aligned for a consistent finish.
Once the posts had set, concrete sleepers were slotted in between them to build the wall to height. The wall was then backfilled and compacted, and the ground in front was levelled and tidied to leave a clean, usable area.
The Result
The finished wall holds the embankment firmly in place, protecting the raised ground and enclosures above while creating a level, usable space below. Concrete sleepers and galvanised posts won’t rot or warp like timber, so it’s a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution.
The property now has a neat, straight wall line that looks sharp and does its job.
