Project Overview
This project involved turning a sloped hillside into a flat, usable pad for a new steel shed on a rural property. The client needed a level base for the shed and a reliable way to manage water coming down the hill.
Our goal was to create a stable, level pad and install V-drains to direct runoff away from the shed and protect the site long term.
The Challenge
The site sat on a natural slope, so there was no flat ground to build on. Getting a level pad meant cutting into the hill and moving a significant amount of material, while keeping the finished batters stable.
Water was the other big concern. Rain running down the hill would flow straight towards the shed, causing erosion, pooling and potential damage to the base over time.
The Solution
We started by stripping the topsoil and cutting into the high side of the slope, using the material to build up the low side. The fill was placed and compacted in layers to create a dense, stable base, then trimmed and levelled to the required height and size.
To control water, we shaped V-drains above and around the pad to catch runoff coming down the hill and carry it safely away from the shed. The batters were shaped and tidied to keep the cut faces stable.
The Result
The sloped hill is now a flat, solid pad with the new shed sitting securely on top. The V-drains keep water moving around the site instead of through it, protecting the shed and the pad from erosion.
The property now has a clean, well-drained shed site that’s built to last and does its job.
