Project Overview
This project involved reworking the hardstand yard at a Wanless waste management depot. The large open area is used daily by heavy waste trucks, skip bins and site vehicles, so it needed a surface that could handle constant heavy traffic.
Our goal was to restore a level, compacted yard that drains properly, so the depot could keep operating efficiently and safely.
The Challenge
Years of heavy truck movements had left the yard uneven, with ruts, soft spots and areas where water would sit after rain. That made it harder for drivers to manoeuvre and increased wear on vehicles and equipment.
The depot also had to stay operational during the works, so the job had to be staged around trucks, bins and staff moving through the site.
The Solution
We worked through the yard in sections to keep the depot running. Using our machinery, we removed the damaged surface material, regraded the area and brought it back to consistent levels with the right falls for drainage.
New material was spread and compacted in layers to create a dense, hard-wearing base able to take the weight of fully loaded waste trucks. The finished surface was trimmed and tidied around the sheds, fence lines and bin storage areas.
The Result
The depot now has a level, solid yard that stands up to daily heavy traffic and sheds water properly. Trucks and machinery can move freely across the site, with less wear and fewer maintenance issues.
The site now has a clean, well-built hardstand that’s built to last and does its job.
